2014 Mock Draft Nasium Style!

This years Draft has been considered by many as a deep draft. Positions like Wide Receiver, Cornerback, and Offensive Lineman seeming to be the some of the deepest areas. Quarterbacks in which at least 8 teams are looking to upgrade are the biggest gamble, yet I see upwards of 10 going in the first 4 rounds. Many teams are rumored to be looking to move picks to land their guy or accumulate more picks especially Houston, St. Louis, and Cleveland. I see the price being to high for most of the teams early in the first round. So once again, here we go!

#1- Houston Texans- Khalil Mack- OLB/DE Buffalo

The Texans would love to get that RG3 type package to move back in the draft, but that price is just to much to pay in the loaded draft this year. Houston will also be looking for Quarterback although none of this years crop warrants risking new Head Coach Bill O’Brien’s job upon. Jadeveon Clowney is the popular pick here, especially with 2 ties to the new coaching staff. Clowney’s work ethic and off field issues hurt him briefly making Mack the player with the better upside.

#2- St. Louis Rams- Greg Robinson- OT Auburn

Owning 2 picks high in this years draft will give St. Louis the best chance to move this pick. Steve Fisher although set the bar too high with the trade with the Redskins 2 years ago and will find no takers. Robinson is an instant starter and having the 13th pick will let St. Louis address either the WR, CB, or Safety position. Sammy Watkins and Jake Matthews could also be in play here, yet Robinson seems to benefit the Rams overall game better, especially with Sam Bradford returning from injury.

#3- Jacksonville Jaguars- Sammy Watkins- WR Clemson

Jacksonville needs play-makers period. Johnny Manziel is a consideration as will be Jadeveon Clowney. Justin Blackmon’s future is unclear and risking this pick on a player such as Manziel this high would be detrimental to Gus Bradley’s rebuilding effort. The Jags play it safe and grab this years top rated Wide Receiver.

#4- Cleveland Browns- (Trade)- Atlanta Falcons- Jadeveon Clowney- DE South Carolina

New GM Ray Farmer is looking to make a slash and adding an extra 3rd rounder this year is a wise move to help fill holes while only sliding back 2 spots. Atlanta unwilling to chance losing their coveted player jumps up to grab him. Clowney now gives the Falcons that edge rusher they so desperately need.

#5- Oakland Raiders- Mike Evans- WR Texas A&M

The top 4 on the Raiders board are gone, and even though the still have the pick of Quarterbacks of the future, the Raiders finally make a wise draft move in picking Evans. Jake Matthews, Zack Martin and Aaron Donald all will be in play here. The upside of giving newly acquired Matt Schaub a possible true #1 Receiver supersedes the others in play. Evans will become the target that Schaub needs to rebirth his career.

#6- Atlanta Falcons- (Trade)- Cleveland Browns- Jake Matthews- OT Texas A&M

Cleveland’s new Head Coach Mike Pettine know he’s on a short leash seeing that the Browns have had more new Head Coaches since there rebirth in 1999 than any NFL team. Installing a new culture takes work and Matthews blood line gives them the best opportunity to insert a Rookie that understands that from day one. Jake’s versatility also gives Kyle Shanahan the ability to improve Cleveland’s running game led by newly signed Ben Tate. The Quarterback will wait knowing that Brian Hoyer is capable of bridging the gap for the next youngster.

#7- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Johnny Manziel- QB Texas A&M

Lovie Smith and crew could also look to add Aaron Donald or Odell Beckham at this point. The possible upside of Manziel will prevail. Josh McCown will be the gap until Johnny is ready for the differences of the NFL. Zack Martin could also be another possibility but the Bucs prefer the excitement “Johnny Football” might offer.

#8- Minnesota Vikings- Anthony Barr- OLB/DE UCLA

The 2 QBs that best fit new OC Norv Turner are both still on the board in Blake Bortles and Derek Carr. New HC Mike Zimmer needs to put his stamp on this team from the get go, choosing to upgrade the deficient parts of his Defense. Turner’s toy has to wait til later.

#9- Buffalo Bills- (Trade)- Miami Dolphins- Taylor Lewan- OT Michigan

The Miami Dolphins need solid Offensive Lineman to fix their biggest hole created through the “Martin” hazing problem of last year. It’s worth them giving up this years 2nd rounder and a 3rd next year to secure one of the top three Tackles on the board.

#10- Detroit Lions- Kyle Fuller- CB/S Virginia Tech

It has been rumored that the Lions are looking to find another WR and could possibly move up to get him. Detroit’s secondary is their biggest weakness, especially when having to face Calvin Johnson and Brandon Marshall each twice a year. Justin Gilbert, Darqueze Dennard, and even Eric Ebron could all be in play here. It is Fuller’s ability to play Safety as well as Corner that gives him the edge. Detroit has a dual of young corners that could still pan out for them.

#11- Tennessee Titans- Anthony Barr- DE/OLB UCLA

Tennessee did not pick up the 5th year option on Jake Locker, only because it was too expensive for an unproven Quarterback. Barr fits new Defensive Coordinator Ray Horton’s 3-4 system. Justin Gilbert and Odell Beckham could also be popular picks here as well.

#12- New York Giants- Zack Martin- OT/G Notre Dame

Eli Manning had one of the most forgettable seasons last year. Will Beatty, David Wilson, and Eli himself are all coming off injuries. Martin will give the Giants the best way to fix their O-line deficiency. Calvin Pryor and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix would be possible if the G Men decide to address their defense first.

#13- St. Louis Rams- Ha Ha Clinton-Dix- S Alabama

The Rams addressed their O-line with their first pick. Finding an upgrade at Receiver could also be in play with Odell Beckham or Brandon Cooks. I however do not see Steve Fisher passing twice on upgrading his Defense.

#14- Chicago Bears- Ra’Shede Hageman- DE/DT Minnesota

Calvin Pryor or Aaron Donald would both be solid options for the Bears here. The loss of Julius Peppers becomes the driving force to bolster Chicago’s weak D-line. I could also see this as a spot where San Francisco looks to jump ahead of Pittsburgh to land Odell Beckham.

#15- Pittsburgh Steelers- Marquis Lee- WR USC

Pittsburgh still has the top rated corner in Gilbert on the board although Mike Tomlin and crew seem to be able to find serviceable corners later in the draft. Eric Ebron could be another target yet his blocking doesn’t fit the Steeler mold. Lee seems to be the best compliment to Antonio Brown at this point. It would also not be a surprise if Pittsburgh were to over reach for the most versatile O-line left in Joel Bitonio.

#16- Dallas Cowboys- Aaron Donald- DT Pittsburgh

We never quite know where Jerry Jones will go. Shady McCoy, Alfred Morris, and David Wilson will force the Cowboys to try to fix their horrible D-line. Aaron Donald also seems to be a good fit for what Monte Kiffin is looking for. Calvin Pryor, Odell Beckham, and Eric Ebron will also be considered.

#17- Baltimore Ravens- (Trade)- San Francisco 49ers- Odell Beckham- WR LSU

The Niners use their stash of picks this year to move up to grab Beckham. San Fran might have over payed a little giving up their 2nd and 5th while obtaining the field stretcher they need. Small price to pay to hopefully get past the Conference Championship game.

Sorry Mock Is Incomplete.
